Well now that life has gotten back on track after the start of a new school semester, GallowsCon has come and gone, and I'm all moved into my new place we can get back down to business. We left off talking about the different schools for spells. We've gone through four of the seven. So, this month we move on to Illusions. Playing an illusionist can be really fun for all involved. As the player you can keep all the other members of your party guessing as to what's real and what isn't. Illusion spells are also a great chance for in game comedy and pranks.
Sorry everybody. This month has totally gotten away from me. With school, work Gallows Con, and the fact that I'm moving this month's spell has been canceled. No need to fret it will return next month.
Augusts’ Spell of the Month
For the last few months we’ve been discussing Wizard/Sorcerer spell schools. Each month we’ve been focusing on a first or second level spell from each of the seven schools. We’re now about half way through the school list. We’ve discussed creation, divination, and enchantment spells. Naturally this month we’re going to talk about evocation spells.
The Players Handbook has this to say about evocations…
July’s Spell of the Month
Welcome back to our discussion on spell schools for Sorcerer/ Wizards. This month we look at Enchantments. Enchantments are mind effect spells. The control or influence your targets actions and behavior. Up till now all of the spells in this series have been first level spells. Unfortunately the Spell Compendium’s list of first level Enchantments are not that desirable. So we’ve moved up to a second level spell.
Entice Gift
Enchantment (Mind-Affecting)
Level: Bard 2, Greed 2, Sorcerer/Wizard 2
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
SHHHHH! It’s a secret.
Welcome to part three of our look at individual spell schools for Wizards and Sorcerers.
This month we’re taking a peek at Divinations.
According to the Players Handbook Divinations allow you to see through time (to see possible future’s or learn about the past), to find hidden objects, or to foil a misdirection spell. Some of the main Divination spells are Identify, Detect Thoughts, Clairaudience/Clairvoyance, and True Seeing.
This month is part two of our nine part series on Wizard/Sorcerer spell schools.
The next school we will focus on is the school of Conjuration.
Conjurations can do many things. There are five sub-schools that pretty much describe what a Conjuration can do.
Calling: These spells bring creatures from another plane to the one you are on.
Creation: These spells create an object or creature.
Healing: These spells allow you to heal injuries.
Sorry this edition was so late alot's been goin on with the end of the school semester and all.
April’s Spell of the Month
School Spirit
This column started out at the very bottom with zero level spells for every class. Since then we’ve worked our way up to first level spells for two of the nine classes featured in The Spell Compendium. This month we start to focus on the two biggest spellcasters in Dungeons & Dragons. Sorcerer/wizard have nine schools that they can focus on if they choose. We will feature one first level spell for each of the nine schools of expertise.
When I started the spell of the monnth my intention was not only to inform but to spur on some conversation. This site has a forum. You can also leave comments on the actual blog entry. I would apreiciate any comments you have to ad to the suject at hand. It's just that sometimes I feel as if no one is paying attention. April's article is going to be a pretty lengthy one. So, I guess I better get back to writing it. Thanks for your time and future participation.
March Spell of the Month
A Bard can’t bard in silence
We’ve dealt with the problem that zero level spells present in creating your spell casters, both arcane and divine. This month we’re gonna continue our look at first level spells in specific classes.
